So, How Long Does It Take to Remodel a Pool?
Okay, say you find the right contractor, and hire them to remodel your pool, then what? How long is it really going to take? What’s the process going to be like? Can it be shortened?
These are all good questions that any customer should ask. Below we break up the remolding process week by week so you can have a clear understanding of how everything works.
Planning Process (2-3 weeks)
Typically the planning process takes a couple of weeks. In that time, you should shop around for the right contractor. Here’s a pro tip:
Don’t just look at the quality of their work; make sure you choose a contractor that you trust to get the work done right. If you’re comfortable with the contractor, you won’t have as much anxiety about the job, which will help the remodeling process get done smoother and at a faster rate.
During the planning process, a good contractor will create models both in 3d and 2d to show you what the end result will look like. It’s important that you discuss all your wants for your remodel ahead of time so that construction doesn’t have to be delayed to get additional permits.
Now, near the end of the planning process, you should have a good understanding of:
- The type of work that will be done
- What the end result will look like
- Overall how much it will cost
- What the warranty covers
Make sure your contract also details what the warranty doesn’t cover that way; you can be prepared for any charges you may need to pay.
Demolition (1-2 weeks)
Demolition includes everything from breaking off the interior to separating the tile and deck. Larger jobs can require major clearing; for example, your pool may have to be broken in half to change its features, shape, and even depth. Due to these reasons, the demolition stage can take anywhere from one to two weeks, depending on what you need to be done.
Pool Construction (1-3 weeks)
Now, it’s time to start constructing your pool! If you’re only remodeling surface-level features, then generally, you’re only a week or two from completion.
Although, if you are adding intricate features or changing the pool’s shape, depth, or adding a spa, then you still have aways to go. After all, the contractors have to begin excavation and shotcrete work which can take anywhere from two to three weeks.
Replacing the Pool Deck (1-3 weeks)
Generally, this part of the remodeling process is tricky to estimate. If you’re doing a simple remodel, then normally, it can be finished in a week.
However, if you’re making large changes to your deck, like adding pavers or travertine, then you may have to wait two to three weeks for it to be completed. Although to be sure about the correct timeframe, ask the person in charge of the masonry.
Typical Timing for Pool Construction
When thinking about pool construction, a good rule of thumb to keep in mind is to plan one week of construction for every $10,000 spent. So think about it this way if your remodeling cost is about $400,000, then it will roughly take 40 weeks to complete, same with smaller projects if the cost adds up to $20,000, then it will take around two weeks to complete.
However, these are just rough estimates; nothing is exact. After all, there are so many factors that determine the timing of construction. For example, the weather, labor shortages, material shortages, and not to mention the actual region of the remodel all determine the time it will take to complete a project.
